Chapter 6

Tears of Flame

And so, yet another glorious morning returned to the Angelic Oasis as the bright and warm light of the sun broke free through the hills and the trees that inhabited life of the stunning aquatic island.

“Good morning, boys,” Lucy spoke as she gently knocked on the outside of their bedroom door. “Kenneth, I think that you should come down here. I have some disconcerting news about your uncle, Andreas.”

Suddenly waking to the name of his uncle, Kenneth then quickly lunged out of his bed and ran towards the door where his aunt stood nervously before him.

“I think that you should come downstairs,” the small, redheaded woman muttered as Kenneth gazed at her with an expression of worry and concern.

Mere minutes later, the family were all stationed around the glass coffee table which sat elegantly in the perfection of Lucy Sparks’ home.

“I, um, I really don’t know how to explain this, but…” their aunt muttered as Kenneth and Emma sat on Lucy’s large, fluffy, ocean-blue sofa next to their cousins, Christian and Naomi. “There was an accident. A fire, and your uncle, well, he couldn’t escape.”

Lucy then stepped aside to reveal a golden and black urn sitting lonely atop their homely fireplace.

“No, no, no. That can’t be true, right?” Kenneth stuttered as he overtly gazed at his aunt for clarification of a different kind. And so, from the sudden shock, Kenneth’s heart began to race uncontrollably inside of his chest as it then started to shatter and break, like an object of fragile glass. “This isn’t true!” he roared before jumping up and running away. Back up into the sanctuary, his bedroom upstairs.

Emma, on the other hand, suddenly began to weep and cry as she then grasped tightly onto Naomi who in turn clung back onto her for comfort and support.

“I am so very sorry, my darling girl…” Lucy whispered as she and Naomi held onto Emma as she sobbed and cried into their arms on the couch.

“I’ll go and see if Kenneth is okay,” Christian spoke as he jumped up and followed his older cousin back into shelter, their shared bedroom atop the stairs.

And so, as Christian turned his gaze into the back of his bedroom, he was suddenly and quickly met with the image of his older cousin as he lay curled up and crying atop his bed. Wailing and whimpering, Kenneth clung tightly onto the note which he had just received from his great-uncle, only the day before.

“Hey buddy, can I get you anything?” Christian asked as he gently placed his left hand softly atop his cousin’s back.

“I can’t seem to make sense of this!” Kenneth wailed out as he suddenly lunged forward and pulled the note free from its envelope which his uncle had written just before his time of passing.

“Did he write something about it inside of the note?” Christian asked.

“I can’t make sense of it…” Kenneth mumbled through hysterical cries. And as the tears of his grief ran free from his face
